Spring Game Celebrates Nursing
Spring 2011 is going to be very special for the School of Nursing! University of Wisconsin Athletics has graciously offered to donate ticket sale proceeds from its Badger football team’s spring game, held April 23, to the School of Nursing’s building campaign. This is the first time that UW Athletics has ever charged admission for the spring game. Athletics plans to go forward with a different UW–Madison department or college as the beneficiary every year. Since we are honored to have been selected by Coach Alvarez to be the first, it’s important that we all work together to make this a successful venture.
This year’s event is a tremendous opportunity for the School of Nursing’s friends, family, and alumni to show their support. The Badgers played in the Rose Bowl this year and finished the season ranked seventh in the country. So, not only will we get a firsthand look at the 2011 Badger football team, but we can do it while honoring Wisconsin nurses and supporting the School of Nursing. It sounds like a winning combination to me!
As many of you know, we are very much on track to break ground this fall for our new nursing building. And if all goes according to plan, we will move in sometime in 2014. This new facility will allow us to educate 30 percent more students, hire more faculty, conduct more important research, better prepare graduates for the increasingly complex world of nursing and health care, and in all ways, better serve the state of Wisconsin and the nation. That’s why everyone’s support is so crucial now. The building project depends on both private and public funds, so your contributions really do matter. Game tickets are $5, and the event will be fun and kid-friendly. I encourage you to buy blocks of them and give them to neighbors and friends. Remember, each ticket sold is a gift to the School of Nursing – so please help make this a “win” for the future of our school. I look forward to seeing you at Camp Randall on April 23rd , and as always...On Wisconsin!
