Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recently announced that the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) has been awarded Magnet Recognition® status, considered to be among the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a healthcare organization. University Hospital is among only five percent of hospitals in the country that have earned the prestigious designation. Earlier this year, University Hospital was also named the best academic medical center in the nation for nursing quality by the American Nurses Association. These are truly significant achievements.

The School of Nursing (SoN) is thrilled that UWHC has been designated as a Magnet institution. The Department of Nursing and Patient Care Services is known as an outstanding department under Dr. McCausland's leadership. We are so fortunate to have this hospital and these clinical nursing colleagues as partners in our academic programs. The Magnet designation provides assurance to families and patients that the nurses at their bedside are providing the highest quality of care.

The School of Nursing also takes pride in knowing that, in part, this recognition is the result of the expertise and commitment of its many graduates practicing at UWHC and the long-standing partnership between the SoN and UWHC Nursing. The energy and intellectual excitement of the School's teaching and research missions has combined with an outstanding nursing staff and a remarkable practice environment at UWHC, and the result—excellence in patient care—is testimony to the power of nursing.
