Master of Science Program

The purpose of the master's program is to prepare nurses for leadership roles in advanced clinical practice (clinical nurse specialists or nurse practitioners), education or to provide a basis for further research preparation. The curriculum is designed to maintain a high standard of scholarship, prepare individuals with in-depth knowledge and experience in their selected area of practice, and provide essential content identified by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing in the Essentials of Master's Education for Advanced Practice Nursing.

The School of Nursing now offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program. The current Master of Science (MS) program is being phased out with the exception of the MS/MPH dual degree program and the MS program as part of the PhD degree.

Applications for the advanced practice and nursing education MS options are no longer being accepted. The first class admitted to the new DNP program will be post-master’s students, entering study in Fall 2010. Applications from individuals with a baccalaureate degree in nursing will be accepted after September 1, 2010 for Fall 2011 admission.
