Chapter Spring Dinner 2013
Beta Eta-at-Large Chapter's Spring Dinner, held Thursday evening, April 11, 2013, at Edgewood College, was a great success this year. Over 70 guests attended this event, titled "Practicing DNPs Share Their Roles and Responsibilities in the Work Setting", which included a panel discussion by Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduates on how their professional doctorate degree has influenced their role responsibility in delivering care. We had an informative and lively discussion with the wonderful panel of guest speakers (photo (from left): Beth Strauss, Sue Rees, Suzanne Purvis, Jodi Delagrave, and Luke Hattenhauer).
Roberta Pawlak, Chapter President (photo), greeted guests with some thoughtful words about recent chapter news and events. Additionally, many enjoyed a tour of the renovation project for Edgewood's new nursing school with Dean Margaret Noreuil, and we celebrated and congratulated this year's research and scholarship award recipients who were announced at the event.
STTI 42nd Biennial Convention
Registration began in late February 2013 for the STTI Honor Society of Nursing's Forty-second Biennial Convention to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 16–20, 2013.
In honor of our fortieth anniversary, we have made a contribution to support the construction of Signe Skott Cooper Hall at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Nursing. Roberta Pawlak, board president (left in photo), presented a check to Coleen Southwell, director of external relations and development at the UW–Madison School of Nursing, at our board meeting on December 17, 2012. We are proud to support nursing education in this important way, and we thank our members whose membership contributions make it all possible.
We are also happy to announce our chapter's contribution to support the current School of Nursing renovation at Edgewood College. Roberta Pawlak (left in photo), board president, presented the donation check for the building project to Margaret Noreuil, dean of the School of Nursing at Edgewood. Our nursing honor society is proud to be able to enhance nursing education among nursing students and health care in our larger community in this important way.
Chapter Research and Scholarship Award Recipients, April 2013
We would like to recognize and congratulate the 2013 chapter award recipients announced at the Spring Dinner by our chapter vice president and research chair, Maria Yelle:
I-Hui Chen, MS, RN, of the UW–Madison, received the Beta Eta-at-Large Chapter's Graduate Research Award for her study, "The Importance of Individual Variation in Understanding Turnover of LTC Taiwanese Nurses." The study will help with understanding of turnover rates in these settings. Quality of care can be greatly impacted by high turnover and exploring reasons for leaving can lead to interventions to decrease turnover. We are all very interested to hear the results of this important study.
This year's recipient of our chapter's Graduate Scholarship Award is Jennie Corey, BSN, RN. Congratulations to Jenny, a master's degree student at Edgewood College (photo (from left): faculty member Maria Yelle and Jennie Corey).
Congratulations to the recipients of our chapter’s Undergraduate Scholarship Awards this year, awarded to three Edgewood College nursing students: Megan Gocht, Heidi Lindroth, and Amber Smid. Please join us in recognizing these outstanding members of our academic community. The Chapter board of directors is so pleased to support nursing students in this way (photo (from left): Megan Gocht, Amber Smid, faculty member Maria Yelle, and Heidi Lindroth).
