History

The Beta Eta-at-Large Chapter traces its roots back to 1972 when Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing granted a charter to the nursing honor society at the University of Wisconsin–Madison called the Beta Eta Chapter. The current Beta Eta-at-Large Chapter was established in 1995 when Edgewood College was invited to join with the UW–Madison to form a combined chapter.

Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as community nursing leaders, are inducted into the honor society upon the recommendation of faculty and active chapter members. Eligibility is based on academic achievement and leadership potential.

Sigma Theta Tau International is ninety years old. Its mission is to further advance the health of people across the world through excellence in scholarship, education, practice, and leadership. Members of Sigma Theta Tau International are shaping the future of professional nursing around the world.
